If Starbucks marketed like the church does.

Church can’t market away it’s problems

Excerpt from You Can’t Advertise Problems Away: Ad Campaigns of the Mainline Denominations found on Churchmarketingsucks.com:

This quote hurts: “Study after study has shown that religions that grow are the ones that are hard-core in some way. They have something that differs sharply from the culture in which they operate,” says Boston University’s [Stephen] Prothero. “That’s the problem with mainline Protestantism: It’s not different enough from mainstream America.”

June Roundtable

11:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Tuesday, June 16
“Olive Tree Café” at ResLife in Grandville
[details]

Do you have a junk drawer? (I seem to have a junk desk!) We’re often surrounded by “stuff.” Can you take one of those items and make it art? What about discovering art on your next venture outside? Treasures await… Please bring a “found art” creation on Tuesday.

After we’re done “ooooh’ing” and “ahhhhh’ing” over each others art, we’re going to talk about the design principal of “grouping” and how arranging objects is key to communicating your point. [This will involve money and crayons, so you can get excited. right. now.]

Continue to bring samples of recent work or things in process for feedback.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Tweeting for Jesus

Twitter goes to church and many people are starting to use it to get the Word out to people about what’s happening in their churches as well as their thoughts, sermon excerpts.  One church even shows the live Twitter feed during services!

Check out how Imagine Fellowship is using Twitter here.

In Diane Mapes article, “Holy Twitter!…” on MSNBC, she describes how Twitter has moved from the streets and offices into the pews of congregations.

What a great way to involve people and get news out about what you’re doing in every day living that is connecting with Christ!

Are you using Twitter? Follow me: @mshead and let me know how you’re using Twitter personally, for business or for your church.

Here’s an overview of Twitter.
